The education system in the United States has taken quite a hit in it’s reputation over the last forty or fifty years. Once thought to be a leader in the field, it now pales in comparison to the education system of Asia. It’s Asia that is now the top dog on the block and it’s America that is left wondering how to get back into the race. The truth is that the differences between the education system in both countries run far and wide. It is not similar in most fashions. So, for the Americans it becomes about changing what needs to be changed the most and figuring out what it is.
The truth is that the problems in rebuilding the American education system to have it be more like the Asian education system will take more than anything that is going on in the schools. So much of the strength of the way that Asians value education comes from the home. There the parents are completely committed to their children’s education. They are involved in the school and have an open dialog with the teachers. They are willing to do whatever they have to so that there children have the best education possible.
The other thing that things parents do is hold their children to a higher standard. They will not settle for anything less than their best. The children are driven by the fear of not letting their parents down. It might seem like an unattractive technique but is is something that children are motivated by. Parents of children who go to school in Asia expect them to do their best at all times and work their hardest and not settle for anything less. If the United States cannot get on board with that kind of logic then they may never be ready to take over the top spot in the world of education again.
