Lapses In Education

While a lot of focus is being laid on primary education, there is a considerable lapse that can be observed when it comes to higher education. Not that imparting primary education is going on smoothly even! There is the inherent problem of retention of the already enrolled students at the primary level. While the authorities focus a lot on enrollment, not enough has been done to encourage continuation of the process of education. This has been a cause of a large number of school as well as college drop-outs.

On one side of the globe, advancements in education have led to the establishment of new standards and reforms but we still struggle with the forms of illiteracy in the developing world. Today, rising population adds to the burden of implementing education reforms. Still a lot has to be done in making free education reach out to the masses. Universities are also facing a dearth of quality professors for the purpose of encouraging higher education. While there is the issue of high infrastructure costs and quality of education in high level Universities, there is also the growing concern of monopoly in the education sector.

The Government in many countries believe in keeping the esteemed Universities of higher education to themselves while allowing privatization on a limited basis. However, one cannot ignore the fact that the State’s role should be more of a facilitator rather than a regulator. Only such a liberal environment can lead the way towards effective education reforms in the higher education sector. Technological applications and multimedia utilization can indeed go a long way in transforming the education sector into a social contributor, contributing especially in the areas of eradicating superstitions, unemployment, gender inequality, crimes against women, poverty, corruption etc. We all need to join hands for this noble cause and move towards a brighter future.
